A little backstory to this clip before you watch it:

Will Smith’s father abandoned him and his mother when he was a child, and when Will was finally getting into show business and making a name for himself, he tried to sneak his way back into his life like nothing happened. Will co-wrote this episode, and James Avery (Uncle Phil) said “this scene was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to shoot in my life. Every emotion, every word.. that was Will”

Will was actually supposed to play it off and then walk away, and there was originally an alternate scene that was supposed to happen, but he actually completely cut out what was supposed to be said, and did all of his own dialogue. The hug at the end of this scene is completely genuine, and this was a stepping stone in Will’s career where he started to take on the “do what feels, sounds, and looks right” approach to his acting.

Well this was really sad :(

Discovered a new kind of sad feeling

i can’t even breathe, this is the saddest fucking thing.

This is why I fight so hard for equal rights, and this is why I get as angry as I was last night and why I lash out when people tell me I need to calm down and shut up about it.

My costuming professor, Joe (straight man, married, with 2 daughters), my boss, Krista and I were discussing the travesty that is North Carolina and the politics of marriage yesterday.  Krista’s brother was gay, and committed suicide a few years ago, this happened to his partner.  Krista’s sister just got married this summer to a lovely woman (who’s name escapes me at the moment). Two sides to the same coin, the polar opposites of this whole ‘debate’ 

By the time we ended our conversation I was shaking so badly with rage, because Joe brought up the question I ask myself all the time, why does it matter? What does it actually do to you?  

Why couldn’t this man BE there? Why couldn’t he say goodbye?  I just don’t understand.

This shatters my heart.  This is why I will fight for you, because this isn’t right, it is most definitely not okay, and you deserve better than this.
